Fish & Chicks

Who says that your local kopitiam does not sell instagram worthy food? Who says that you can’t have a fancy fish meal right under your void deck? Here is Fish & Chicks, located right at the hearts of your neighbourhood. Well-known for their Salted Egg/Chilli Crab Fish And Chips, along with their other food like Hawaiian Chicken. It is quite unique that their outlets are just mini stalls which only take up a small area of hawker centres. The one that I went to is located at Blk 531, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, Happy Hawkers, with the stall occupying the left side. I went there during the peak period dinner time and the estimated waiting time was 45 minutes. It is a self-service order.

The menu

Salted Egg Fish & Chips $12.90

First is the signature Salted Egg Fish And Chips. A must buy indeed! A big dory slice with salted egg gravy poured over the batter. The dory slice tasted fresh, with no fishy aftertaste. Crispy batter outside with tender, soft and moist flesh. For the salted egg gravy, it is creamy and not diluted, with a just nice texture and not too heavy. The only small downside is that after some time, the fish and chips turned soggy due to the gravy. The fish and chips meal is served with two sides which you can pick, hence I picked fries and mash potato. The fries are in large quantity, crispy yet soft, seasoned with Cajun powder. If you visit Fish & Chicks, this one is definitely a must to eat!

Thai Tom Yum Fried Rice With Lemon Grilled Fish (most bottom)

The Thai Tom Yum Fried Rice With Lemon Grilled Fish is the bottom meal in the picture above. The tom yum fried rice was bland and the spices were not enough. It tasted super plain and I honestly did not finish the rice. The quantity of rice is a lot, but sadly the tom yum fried rice did not meet my expectations. Luckily the lemon grilled fish saves it all. The lemon grilled fish slice is quite thin, but it tasted fresh and is not overly grilled.

Hawaiian Chicken $7.90

The Hawaiian Chicken, a small chicken piece, covered with thick layer of cheese, pineapple slices and tomato sauce. Basically it’s a Hawaiian pizza flavour. It does reminds me of KFC Chizza but definitely tasted better. With crispy skin and tender meat, this meal is decent enough, served with two side dishes which you can choose. I picked fries and mash potato as the sides.

All in all, I think that they should improve their waiting time. My stomach was rumbling so bad as it took them a super long time to prepare the meals.

The Salted Egg Fish And Chips is the only meal I really enjoyed among the ones I tried and would love to revisit again only for that! Have not tried the rest so maybe I'll be back for more!
